COVID-19 STILL AFFECTS OUR ASSOCIATION – Nov 2020 Newsletter

Well the “New Norm” has dealt our association another detour in our path to stay connected with our members and to continue to meet, discuss and act on issues important to our members and departments.  The Board of Officers and the Slinger Fire Department made a decision on Saturday the 10th of October that we would need to cancel our Annual Meeting we had planned for November 1.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.  This was not an easy decision to have made.   The board to decided to error on the side of safety for all involved.  Further the board feels that as leaders in our community that others look to for guidance and leadership we determined that it would not be appropriate for us to be meeting as a group of 70 to 100 people in one building.

We continue to offer prayers and thoughts of support to our brothers and sisters that respond to calls for help.  Especially our firefighting brothers out west fighting the wild land fires that our ravaging our country. Many of our fellow first responders are facing challenges in work lives.  We ask they keep their faith, focus on their purpose and stay strong.

Plans are still under way for two hands-on training by the Training Committee. Basic Rapid Intervention Team training on March 12 and 13 at the “Slinger House.”  Friday night will be classroom with a new segment dealing with Firefighter Down CPR and Saturday will be filled with Hands-On training.  The weekend of April 16 and 17 our association is hosting an Agriculture Rescue Seminar with the Fillmore Fire Department.  Friday evening there will be number of lecture sessions to prepare the participants for 6 practical stations on Saturday.  Our hosts for Saturday’s program will be the Golden E Dairy Farms.

Don’t forget to take the time to vote on the 3rd of November.  It is our individual responsibility to take the time and vote. It is really important to set up a line of communications with our local government officials.  Make sure that they know who you are and what is important to you. We have some state legislators that have not been very friendly towards the fire service.  We have had legislators that chair committees that allowed bills such as state income tax check off, sprinklers required in housing buildings greater than 3 units, and the prevention of the sale of novelty lighters to minors.  Our association has been actively involved advocating for the passage of this legislation.

Below are 3 pics of the Village of Jackson Municipal building that is being constructed with expected completion in September of 2021.  This building will house the Jackson Fire Department, Jackson Police Department and Jackson Village Hall.  This is a project that was worked on for 4 years before they broke ground.  Currently, most of the precast wall panels have been placed along with some interior masonry walls.  Metal roof trusses are starting to go in.  The new station will be a significant upgrade from the current 1960’s pole barn which has been added onto 3 separate times and is in very poor condition.  The new station will feature 7 double deep drive-thru apparatus bays complete with Plymo-Vent exhaust systems.  Living quarters and fitness center will be upstairs with offices, locker room, large training rooms and lobby on the first floor.

A REMINDER that your annual dues are to be paid for the annual meeting.  If you need an invoice, please contact Secretary Ron Naab.

Strive to be better, faster, safer, and smarter,
