October 2021 Newsletter

The leaves on the trees are turning in colors, high school fall sports are coming to tournament time and the many hunting seasons are coming upon us. This month we have Fire Prevention Week with many of doing inter-active events for kids and adults. On Saturday, October 9th the Wisconsin Firefighters and EMS Memorial will be hosting their annual Final Alarm Ceremony and Parade. We urge you to consider attending this event at the park in Wisconsin Rapids. As part of the ceremony will be a time to  recognize those members (active and retired) that have passed away in the past two years. If you have no one able to attend send names of those that you wish to have remembered and Ron Naab will present them at the Memorial Service before October 7.

REMINDER that our Annual Meeting and Fall Banquet is set for Sunday, November 7th at the NEW Jackson Fire Station on WI-60, east. We will have election of officers—President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. We have emailed information, if you need an invoice please let Ron Naab
know. We look to have a very meaningful meeting with a great speaker, along with an awesome meal.

Your Badger Firefighters Association Training Committee continues to look at offering hands-on and classroom presentations to help all of us be better. On October 26th we will be sponsoring a LP Gas response training. There will be 5 stations that will allow for hands-on training at the Campbellsport Fire Station. Each participant must have a minimum of Entry Level Firefighter A & B training. The stations are as follows:

              • 250 – 500 gallon tank
              • Twin 100 gallon tanks
              • Pipe Flange Leak/OS&Y
              • DOT WC-80 Fork Lift Cylinder
              • Bobtail Review

Each department will be provided a copy of Propane Emergency Training program. The training is being presented by Wisconsin Propane Education & Research Council in conjunction with FIRE, LLC. In accordance with NFPA 1403.

Vice President Peter Manning has offered training to our member departments on procedures to do Firefighter Down CPR. This one of those Low Frequency, HIGH Risk occurrences that we hope we never have to perform. Protecting our own is a responsibility for EACH member in our departments.

The Advanced Rapid Intervention Team Training is tentatively planned for December 4th or 5th at the house in Richfield. There will be a Basic Rapid Intervention Team Training in early spring. The training committee is committed to providing specialized training for our members and fellow brothers and sisters.

The President has asked that we do a spotlight department each month along with any news that a department wishes to share. The Secretary, Ron Naab, will be forwarding a suggested outline shortly along with a schedule of the departments’ rotation.

Respectfully,
Badger Firefighters Association Officers
